When wanting to refer a youth to the Walgwan Center, if the agency has never worked with us before, it is appropriate to first call and get more information. Whenever possible, we could travel to your community and participate in the pre-treatment phases. Our staff would get involved in your community, providing more information about our program to the local intervenors, participating in case assessments, meeting with the youth and family members and/or significant ones.

However, having such a vast territory to cover, we may not always be able to travel to the communities. In these cases, we rely on the local intervenors to proceed with the case assessments using the referral forms. It is important that the intervenors responsible for the referrals, the ones providing the information through the referral forms, be well informed about the cases referred. It is important for our staff at the Walgwan Center to complete the best evaluation possible of each case and make the proper decision. Therefore, the information provided by the community intervenors must be accurate and complete. In some cases being referred to our Center, if the information is incomplete or if in need of more information regarding certain aspects of the youth being referred to us, we might return the incomplete forms to the referring agencies or request added information. Once all the information is received, our clinical staff will hold a meeting, evaluate the referral, and make a decision.
