Holistic approach implies that each element is related to, or integrated with, every other element. At the Walgwan Centre, we address the elements being interrelated; through the youth's own development in regards to their mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. Our program relies on a holistic approach meaning that it stands on:
- Various psychological and social concepts and strategies: the clinical aspect.
- The respect of native cultural and spiritual beliefs, traditions.
Our approach allows sustaining native culture to reinforce empowerment and at times the re-empowerment by the youth of fundamental traditional values of the native culture, and to support their process of cultural identification. It allows also for those who have chosen a specific spiritual path to go along with their choice. For his personal, cultural, spiritual identity all converge into the therapeutic process.
All human experiences and social interactions are culturally determined: “… culture is the integrated pattern of human behaviors which includes thought, communication, actions, customs beliefs, values and institutions of a racial ethnic, religious or social group”.
