The Walgwan Center is situated in the Province of Quebec on the
Gaspé coast. Our priority is to offer services to all First
nations and Inuit communities situated East of Ottawa, therefore
including the Labrador and Atlantic regions. However, being one
of the National Centers, we may also admit youths from other provinces,
if needed. Our location is the Mi'kmaq native community of Gesgapegiag.
Gesgapegiag has an on-reserve population of about 500 members, situated
at the mouth of the Grand Cascapedia River, on the shore of Chaleur
Bay in Gaspésie. Gesgapegiag is situated near New Brunswick.
Some of the services provided in the community
are health and community services, Amerindian social services, an
elementary school, an adult education learning center, the administrative
services of the Band, a community hall, and the local Amerindian
police. We can also find the Mawiomi Adult Treatment Center.
